Motherhood Chat Monday: If I never heard this again it would be too soon!

"Wow!  Three boys!"

On Friday we were at dinner and some lady sitting across from us flagged me down just to say to me "OMG! Three boys! You have your hands full!" I was instantly so annoyed because my kids were all behaving and we were really enjoying our night out. First of all, I am very aware that I have three boys. Secondly, wouldn't I have my hands full if I had three girls or a dog, a cat and a chimpanzee? Would this lady have flagged me down and said anything if I had three girls? Yes, three boys are a lot of work but they aren't some awful species that requires more attention than girls. If I never hear a comment like this again it will be too soon.

It's not just about the boy comments it's about people making comments about people's kids that just aren't necessary. Other questions I can't believe people ask me are:
Three boys? Are you going to try for the girl?
You have three boys. Girls take care of their parents. Wonder who is going to take care of you when you're old?
or the all so popular "Shopping for your kids must not be as fun as if you had a girl."

I wouldn't know what it's like to have daughters but my boys are my world and that's that. I wear this boy mom title proudly. They will always take care of me, their dad and each other because we are raising them to be good people. Even if I tried ten more times I could end up with ten more boys so NO I AM NOT TRYING FOR A GIRL. IF I try I'll just shoot for a baby. Lastly, if my kids are bouncing off the walls it's because they are kids not because they are boys.

I could sit here and explain to you why boys are amazing but that's not the point. I've hesitated for so long about posting this because it sounds bitchy and that isn't what this blog is about but, I'm also about keeping it all the way real around here so I decided to go ahead and write this. I also want Motherhood Chat Monday to be about anything and everything motherhood. The moral of the story is motherhood is hard and we are all trying our best so just think before you flag a mother down to make an unnecessary comment or ask a ridiculous question about her kids.

What are some things you wish people never said or asked you again?

  1. I agree 100 percent! I love being a Boy Mom! I've heard all the comments you listed plus "Wow, 3 boys so close in age, were they all planned". Or this one "girls help out around the house". All my boys help around the house, especially in the kitchen. They need to keep those comments to themselves.

  2. The second I had my son I got the "are you going to have another one?" and "when's the girl coming?" questions! I'd get so awkward because instead of coming up with a polite answer I'd actually really start thinking about it and want to answer it truthfully... lol! Still.... If I had to pick one thing that people say that annoys the crap out of me is.. "You've gained weight!" .... AS IF I DIDN'T NOTICE THE CHANGES IN MY OWN BODY!!!! Lol...SMH

  3. I completely understand your frustration. I too hate when I’m asked if I’m going to try for a boy. If it were up to me, I’d have 3 or 4. Due to health reasons, I can no longer birth anymore and that is such an emotional subject for me. Another one is when people make comments about my girls being so close in age. I’m aware their 14 months apart. I planned both pregnancies. I can go on and on but I’ll stop here.

Tell me what you think!
